Happy Monday!
Homework: Remember, by your block you should have read Chapter 13, 14, and 15! DWA Revisions are also due on your block day. Following the every 5 chapters reading quiz rule, that means you have one on 11-15 on your block day. You got this! Remember, I am dropping your lowest reading quiz at the end of the unit. We are moving fast so we can watch and enact the trial, which, at least to me, is really interesting! Let's get there. Reading homework is about to slow down. Today we started your TKM essays. Please make a copy of this document, SUPER IMPORTANT, as it will be your guide to this essay --> TKM Writing Organizer 2019 HERE is a good resource from OMAM in which I gave you a step by step guide to writing solid, strong theme statements.

Homework:
Task 1: Google Forms for Romeo and Juliet planning and other misc. questions! CLICK HERE Task 2: Final CD, CM, TS practice - Weebly Comments --> click "Comments" on top, it will probably have a number. Prompt: Chapter 11 ends with quite an emotional send-off to close Part 1 of TKM- Jem must go to Ms. Dubose's house every day and read to her after he destroys her flowers in a fit of rage after she tells Jem and Scout that the Finch family is no better than the "n***** and trash that [they] work for." WOAH, lady. Atticus reveals at the end of the chapter that Ms. Dubose was addicted to morphine and pain-killers, and reading to her was part of healing her addiction and that Ms. Dubose has died. Atticus gives Jem a box that Ms. Dubose left for Jem- the only present Ms. Dubose left for everyone- a single, beautiful flower. Now that we have finished Part One, answer this question: How is Harper Lee redefining courage through the events of Chapter 11? What is it that Jem ultimately learns is the definition of courage through his relationship with Ms. Dubose and the punishment associated with it? Task 3: Chapter 7-11 Kahoot Task 3: DWA Revision Work-Time, Extra Credit Work-Time Homework: Read Chapter 12 by Friday, May 3rd. (WOO! We finished part I guys!) Remember, you don't have an EQ for this reading, because we are spending time with the DWA this week.
RED DWA Revision Slip due to me on FRIDAY, May 3rd if you are NOT revising your actual DWA. RED DWA Revision Slip due, with re-written essay stapled to it, by your block day next week, if you ARE revising. 20 mins: CD, CM, or TS & Thesis Target Partner Work 25 minutes: Choose your Practice Step 1 (For all students) Writing Practice / Headphones and phones not OK. With your Target Partner, I'd like you to start with your "CD" "CM" or "TS/THESIS" table work. This is so that you may practice your comprehension and skills, as well as understand the importance of revision in the essay process. SHOW ME some good work, some effort and evidence that you are practicing your Target Skill. Step 2 - Headphones OK. (CHOOSE one activity for yourself) this is where smart SELF-DIAGNOSING of needs comes in :) This is worth points. Option 1: Part I A Visual Review of TKM Part One Come to the front of the room and grab a large piece of paper. On it, create a visual timeline of TKM from Chapter 1 to Chapter 11, which is Part One of the book. Write your "creative title" for the chapter next to each chapter, for example, I "Chapter 1: Where Scout Rants About the Finch Family Tree" and then draw a symbol that you associate with that chapter. If you don't want to draw an associated symbol, list the potential most important scenes in that chapter. I am going to display these on the wall! :) Make this visually appealing! This is for 15 BONUS reading points, due on Monday, May 6th. Option 2: DWA Revision Work Time Revision parameters: According to Language Arts Department policy, you can revise for up to full credit on assessments, and you can not score lower than your original score. There is no limit on who can choose to revise, meaning anyone from someone who got a 94 to a 54 can choose to revise for full credit. You have a week, so your block period next week, either Tuesday, May 7th or Wednesday, May 8th. Spend this time actually revising your DWA! Some of you NEED this! Use your Red DWA Revision slip to do some good, solid revision work. This is also time to finish your Red DWA Revision Slip since it is due for all of you by Friday. Homework: By your block day, you should have completed Chapter 11 of TKM. By Friday, you should have completed Chapter 12 of TKM. If you ARE choosing to revise the DWA (by editing the document) your salmon-colored revision slip is due TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY (depending on your block). If you are choosing NOT to revise the DWA, your salmon-colored revision slip is due FRIDAY, May 3rd. Here is the PPT from today, the revision form in case you need to print at home. REVISION SLIP: CLICK Homework: READ CHAPTER 11 by your block period, either Tuesday, April 30th or Wednesday, May 1st. Afterwards, your reading homework will be to read Chapter 12 by Friday, May 3rd. NO EQ SINCE WE ARE GOING TO FOCUS ON DWA REVISIONS THIS WEEK. NOTE: this "staggered reading" will ensure both day block periods have at least two days at least one point in the week, for example, my 4th period has until Tuesday to read Ch.11, but then they have two days to read Chapter 12, and then my 5-7th periods have two days to read Chapter 11 but one day to read Chapter 12. See how it works? Later this week, we are going to work on DWA revisions and reviewing your scores. Today, we took our Chapters 6-10 Reading Quiz, and then you spent some time taking your last STAR test of this academic year. For those who are absent during this time, plan to take your reading quiz when you return, and your STAR test when you return. Homework: Read Chapter 11 by your block period day, either April 30th or May 1st.
Chapter 6-10 Reading Quiz Monday. As you can see, I'm not here today! The sub is wonderful and will guide you through today. FIRST THING: Turn in your graphic organizer Ch.8-9 EQ "How does any character in the novel use either empowering or dis empowering language ... is it excusable?" 20 mins: Afterwards, you should be reading! Read Chapter 10 to yourself. If you're not on Chapter 10, you have some reading to catch up on. By your block day next week, you need to have read Chapter 11. 15 mins: IF AND ONLY IF you are focused during reading time, you will watch some of the movie :) Today we talked about intent vs. impact, racial language, and the N-word.
